Bollywood Hunk Shah Rukh Khan To Receive “Knighthood” In Malaysia Oct Nov 29

Bollywood hunk Shah Rukh Khan will be in Malaysia on Wednesday Nov 29 to accept the Datukship award, or an equivalent a Knighthood in Britain, reports said.

The award will be conferred by the Head of State of Melaka, giving the actor the title Datuk, and will be addressed in Malaysia as Datuk Shah Rukh Khan.

Melaka Chief Mininister Mohd Ali Rustam, himself a Datuk, said that the ceremony would be teleast live at 10pm.

The award came amid outcry in Malaysia, with many questioning whether Shah Rukh Khan deserved the title. The Malaysian artistes association, however, supported the move, saying it had no objection to it so long as local artistes were also given similar recognition in the future.

Malaysia has awarded titles to local filmmakers, actors and singers, not only with a Datukship but also the Tan Sri, the second highest award in the country after the title Tun.

Former premier supports Shah Rukh Khan

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been awarded the title Tun, is among those who supported Shah Rukh Khan’s Datukship.

“Shah Rukh Khan is a popular Bollywood star. I had been trying to woo Bollywood film companies to shoot their film here as it would introduce Malaysia not only to Indian cinema goers but also in those in Europe,” he said in his blog www.chedet.com.

“Among those whom I’ve invited,” said Dr Mahathir, “was Shah Rukh Khan. He is very much impressed with the scenery in Malaysia.”

Bollywood Heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan “Knighted” In Malaysia

A state in Malaysia has awarded Bollywood heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan with a “Datukship”, an award equivalent to that of a knight in the United Kingdom.

Shah Rukh Khan will receive the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) award which carries the honorific “Datuk” in conjunction with the Melaka Head of State Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob’s 77th birthday which falls on Oct 11.

So, each time Shah Rukh Khan attends an event in Malaysia, he will be addressed as “Datuk Shah Rukh Khan”.

According to the Head of State’s press secretary, the award was given for his contribution to the entertainment industry at international level.

“Shah Rukh Khan has also contributed to our tourism industry when he acted in a movie filmed in Malaysia,” the press secretary said.

Paris Hilton For President

The following report is by the Associated Press about Paris Hilton “fake presidency” ambition.

LOS ANGELES, Oct 9 — Watch out world: Paris Hilton is continuing her bid for the White House.

The paparazzi darling and reality TV star touted her candidacy in a video on FunnyOrDie.com yesterday — her second appearance in a political spoof on the site.

“Running for fake president is a little daunting,” a heavily made-up Hilton tells Martin Sheen, whom she calls “one of our greatest fake presidents”.

“Being a fake president is a lot harder today than it was when I was a fake president,” says Sheen, who has often played American presidents, most notably on TV’s “The West Wing”.

Hilton talks with Sheen about “Fo Po” — “Foreign policy, silly” — and shares what could be her real views on the economy and the war in Iraq.

“Iraq has a democratic government that is asking for us to leave,” she says. “It seems that we’ve done our job and we should bring our troops home safely.”

Economically, “this is the biggest depression since ‘The Notebook’,” Hilton says, adding that the government should “lower inflated interest rates so it’s not impossible for (people) to pay their mortgage.”

As Sheen tells Hilton she’s “going to make a great fake president,” his son, Charlie Sheen, pops in with a promise to “fake vote” for her.

Hilton bids the elder Sheen farewell with a kitten-voiced, “Bye, sexy,” then tells the camera: “See you at the fake inauguration.”

The 27-year-old heiress said in a statement that she hopes the video inspires people to consider the issues and vote in the real presidential election.

“I hope that my political opponents take in consideration the points that I have addressed because I feel that they are important and, as well as, that my generation and the new young voters should become more involved with our current issues and speak their voice through voting,” Hilton said.

“This is the most important presidential election in decades and voting is the only way that you have a voice for change.” — AP

Linkin Park Cancels China Tour Over Lead Singer Bennington’s Injury

Linkin Park has cancelled its China tour after lead vocalist Chester Bennington sustained a back injury.

The band said in its website that doctors have ordered Bennington to refrain from travelling or engaging in any physical activities.

“Linkin Park sincerely regrets this unavoidable cancellation and apologizes to fans for any disappointment caused. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase,” Linkin Park said.

The concerts were organized as fundraisers to benefit Sichuan, an area ravaged by a devastating earthquake this past May.

The band said however that funds will still be contributed to the band’s nonprofit organization, Music for Relief, and matched by the World Bank. These funds will benefit post-earthquake reconstruction projects in the Sichuan Province initiated by Chinese Civil Society Organizations.

The cancelled shows are as follows:
Oct. 12 - Shanghai, China - Shanghai Stadium
Oct. 15 - Wuhan, China - Xinhua Stadium
Oct. 17 - Taipei, Taiwan - Taipei Soccer Stadium
Oct. 19 - Beijing, China - Beijing Workers Stadium
Oct. 21 - Macau, China Cotai Arena - The Venetian
