U2’s new album, with “No Line on the Horizon” as the working title, is not going to be released this year afterall.

Bono says that the record is still taking shape and will only be released next year. “We want 2009 to be our year,” he says.

“We have what it takes, we have the songs, new rhythms and a guitar player who is not ready to re-enter earth’s atmosphere until he’s taken a slice of the moon!

“It’s been fun, it’s been maddening… there have been injuries and recoveries, no babies born that I know of, but this one is nearly ready for the new year of 2009,” Bono told U2.com.

He added that, “When we set out on this record it was Larry who came up with the plan not to have a plan. He put up this idea that wouldn’t it be great just to make music for its own sake, not for the purpose of a live show or on album but just to see what we’re capable of…”

And boy, they are indeed capable, according to the report. They have gone on a songwriting-spree and have written some “fifty or sixty” tracks.

Okay, this is good and bad news for U2’s fans — it’s bad in a sense that instead of November, they will have to wait a few more months to see where the band had headed to after the dismantling of the atomic bomb.

The good news is, there must be hell of songs in the album. Hey, if there are already fifty or sixty tracks, I guess fans around world wouldn’t mind paying for the release of twin albums.

Guns N’ Roses had done that in 1991 with Use Your Illusion Vol 1 and Vol 2, which debuted at #1 and #2 on Billboard album sales chart.

I know I wouldn’t mind paying.

Four Of U2’s Upcoming Tracks Leaked By A Passer-by

Bono, U2’s frontman may have inadvertently leaked not one but four of U2’s songs from an upcoming album, tentatively called No Line On The Horizon, all because he played the songs too loud, allowing a passer-by to record the tune and upload it on YouTube.

Now I haven’t heard the tunes — I rather not because I prefer to wait for the real thing, which is expected to be out by November — but the blunder must have stole some thunder, or add more thunder for all you know, from the scheduled launch of album.

Anyway, the clip in question has been taken down. So, no line on the horizon for now. In the meantime, enjoy “The Fly” (Live in Boston).
